Mailbag Monday: Sirsy

When I am looking for a band with a female lead singer, I look for a band that has chosen to go one of two ways:

1) Showcasing the beauty and fragility of a delicate female vocal, often juxtaposing it with dark lyrics or large amounts of cynicism (Rilo Kiley's Under the Blacklight comes to mind)

or

2) I want the "Cassandra experience" which is to say I want to feel like Wayne did in Wayne's World when he first sees Cassandra, his future girlfriend and lead singer of the band Crucial Taunt. He is taken by her physical beauty first, but then quickly falls under the spell of her badassedness. She rocks harder than any guy in the club. And that kind of experience is something that I really enjoy in a female-fronted band.

Sirsy have this latter quality in spades. Listen to the two tracks below. You do NOT want to mess with lead singer Melanie Krahmer.

You can buy their newest album Coming Into Frame at their websiteAmazon, Amazon MP3, or iTunes
