Counting Down the Alternative Songs AND the minutes before my throat falls off!

Of Monsters and Men
I'm just really happy that I was able to get this one recorded and posted. My larynx is about to abandon my body and try to make it on the streets of New York City as the apprentice to a con artist a la Robert Redford in The Sting. On a related note, my throat really does sting at this juncture.

I hope you enjoy the episode!

Dessa: The Early Words Tour

So, she hinted at it in the answer to a question I asked a couple of months ago in this Q&A, but now it's official:

Dessa will be touring the East Coast in May.

Honestly, there's not much more to say than that. Go get tickets and more info HERE. Do yourself a favor and check out a Dessa show if one is happening near you.

UPDATE: These are the finalized Early Words Tour Dates!!

Top Ten Tuesday: Pink featuring Nate Ruess from fun. "Just Give Me a Reason"

I'm happy to be able to put this video up. Both INCREDIBLY strong singers singing an incredibly catchy song. Every song I hear him sing, I like Nate Ruess a little more.

Plus Pink (It hurts that she's stylized it "P!nk") is pretty great to look at :)

Flashback Countdown #4!!! 1995!!!!

This is the 4th Flashback Countdown I've done and it might be my favorite so far! 1995 often slips by me when I'm thinking of great years for Alternative Music, but this countdown should serve as a reminder that it was a fantastic year. Every song is enjoyable and uncringeworthy.

Oh it's also the Countdown's 3rd Birthday! Happy Birthday Appetite For Distraction Alternative Top 10 Countdown!

I'm going to start having an image of one of the bands featured on the countdown each week, chosen at random. I've switched to a new RSS reader and it'll look pretty on that. And that's the reason I am doing this. It's selfish, but maybe it'll add something to the blog posts....

Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake w/ Jay-Z "Suit and Tie"

Well I thought it was only fitting that this week's TTT. The first Justin Timberlake album in 6+ years comes out today and that's pretty exciting. I like what I've heard from it and I'm ALMOST to the point where I'm comfortable purchasing it and not saying it's for my wife. ALMOST.

JT is a great performer and I'm very pleased to see the directions he's taken his career and also that he seems to be a very nice, genuine guy.

I like this song, even if Kanye doesn't. :)

And, just because it's always fun to remember where he came from and who he came with (I think there are 4 kids from these credits besides Justin that are (or have been) super famous):

New Countdown and a Lost Time Travel Analogy

Well I started titling this blog like that because I couldn't remember what the time travel analogy I make during the course of the show was. But when I started to write "Lost Time Travel Analogy" I realized that I had unassumingly found the answer. That's a good tip for the future, kids. Stop trying to think of the thing you're trying to think of and give your subconscious room to THINK. It'll come up with the answer. Or it won't and you'll be tormented for the rest of your days.

.....Countdown time!

Well, as I mention in the episode, this will be the last new countdown until the week after next. Next week will be a Flashback Countdown and it's a good one. So come back for that!

This Podcast is Madness (Nah, Nevermind it isn't)

So, my sister gave me a hand with this one. But we were both tired and sugared up and kind of loopy. It definitely makes for a very interesting countdown, to say the least! But I know that many of you have said that you like hearing me punchy and this is not only me punchy but also my sister punchy and us egging eachother on and all of that. So you'll almost certainly LOVE it!

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble"

So this is one of those intense videos I was talking about the other week. I like this song, but I feel like the over-long intro is WAY too dramatic for the feeling of the song.

I like seeing TS get dirty/grungy/whatever, and it's cool to see her exploring different sounds on her songs.

And now, to lighten the mood, here's something that has been going around the Internet. First there was a video of goats sounding like humans going around. And then people started doing this to pop videos. And I kind of like it and kind of hate it. So, it's perfect, as far as stuff coming from the Internet is concerned.

Monthly Poll: Green Day - Dookie

So I want to focus a little more on these Alternative Album Grammy Winners that I'm playing for bonus songs on the Countdown. So I think, on the first Monday of every month, I'm going to do a little retrospective poll related to the album from the proceeding month.

February's album was Green Day's Dookie

  • Chump
  • Longview
  • Welcome to Paradise
  • Pulling Teeth
  • Basket Case
  • She
  • Sassafras Roots
  • When I Come Around
  • Coming Clean
  • Emenius Sleepus
  • In the End

Change Comes to the Countdown!

Yes, after weeks and weeks with not a lot of movement, we enter the first countdown of March with the scent of change on the air.

Lots of movement this week. Some expected. Some unexpected, though now maybe it'll be expected because I said it was unexpected. I don't know how your mind works. Anything could happen.

It's late, so I'm not going to make this a big humdinger of an introduction, but I hope you enjoy the episode!
