Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake featuring Chris Stapleton "Say Something"

This is a TRULY impressive video for the song that debuts at #9 this week. It also makes me excited to check out the album. I will admit that the prospect of putting a video like this together stresses me out a lot.

Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake "Can't Stop The Feeling!"

I'm going to post the official video for this catchy-as-hell song of the summer contender. And then I'll also post the video of various celebrities (including one of my favorites: Anna Kendrick!) listening to the song and dancing around. I like Justin Timberlake. He seems great.

I was relieved to learn that I hadn't posted about a song from this album when 2006 came around the last time. Relieved and surprised. This is a great album. Actually, I can only attest to the singles. I have it on my iPod, but I can't say that I've listened to the whole thing all the way through. I'll rectify that soon.

Of all the catchy singles, "My Love" has always been my favorite. It's such a steady, smooth, chill song. I like the video too. Good dancing. Having just finished watching it before I started writing, I have to say my favorite moment is when the girl is pulling the rubber band on T.I.'s wrist with her teeth and it breaks and he smiles and she smiles and mouths "Sorry". It was an honest moment and I liked it.

4. Alan Jackson - Like Red on a Rose
3. Tony Bennett - Duets: An American Classic
2. Janet Jackson - 20 Y.O.
1. Ludacris - Release Therapy

Top Ten Tuesday: Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake "Love Never Felt So Good"

This song is really good. I know there's kind of maybe a lot of eye-rolling about the "new" Michael Jackson album, but I feel like, based on what I've heard, that it was put together by people that had a real love for MJ's music and just wanted to get previously unheard Michael Jackson music out to the people. Call me naive, but this doesn't feel like a money-making project. I mean, if it was just a money-making project, I don't think this song would be as enjoyable.

Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake "Not a Bad Thing"

This is a great song. One of the highlights of both discs of the album. The Official Music Video doesn't really feature the song that much, so I'm going to post this first:

See? Great song. I'm so glad that this made the Top Ten. And now here's the Official Video. It's a very interesting and lovely video, but like I said, the song is more of a background deal than actually something that you pay attention to in the video.

Top Ten Tuesday: Jay Z featuring Justin Timberlake "Holy Grail"

The second most popular post on this blog is the TTT I did for JT's "Suit and Tie" [EDIT: Since I wrote this post, it has become THE most popular post] which featured Jay Z and now the video for "Holy Grail", the lead-off track from Jay's Magna Carta Holy Grail album, and one of my favorite songs of the year. I love the juxtaposition of their voices and the dynamic, epic feel of the song.

The video is visually striking. Lots of flash and shine interspersed with scenes of Jay sitting in a room with bullet-riddled walls and dusty furniture. Very nice contrast. It's a great video to watch.

They've done some remixing of the song, which I'm not sure I care for. One of the things I love about the song is that JT gets at least 90 seconds of singing in before Jay utters a word and I think that's a pretty ballsy way to start a record. But apparently, they thought it was too ballsy a move for the video.

And then they slow the hook way way down. And just, I don't know. It changes it.

This won't be posting for 12 days from when I'm writing it and I'm sure that lots of people will have comments and discussions about it in the interim. But, from the perspective of 35 minutes after it was posted to Facebook, I'd say that I like the look of the video and I know that they needed to adjust the song to suit that look. I just don't think I'll come back to this video when I want to listen to the song. Which is maybe ok, you know? The song and the video can be two separate entities.

Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake "Mirrors"

Justin Timberlake's second Top 10 song from The 20/20 Experience has a video with a little more of a story. Which is cool. I love a video with a story. I was interested to see how he was going to make the story last for the full 8 minutes of the song, and the solution is simple. This is basically two videos for two songs all under the name of one song. The first video has the story and the second video is a video about JT dancing. Both of which are cool with me. Enjoy!

I saw this comment and I thought it really helps put the video (especially the first half) in context:

"Justin wanted to honor his grandparents' love. They were married for 63 years, and their names adorn the opening credits. The video is a short film revolving around a couple who met back in the day, and as time progresses, so does the good and the bad. In between the smiles and the laughs you see tears and pain. The couple is so intertwined that the symbolism leads us to believe they end up mirroring each other in old age."

Top Ten Tuesday: Justin Timberlake w/ Jay-Z "Suit and Tie"

Well I thought it was only fitting that this week's TTT. The first Justin Timberlake album in 6+ years comes out today and that's pretty exciting. I like what I've heard from it and I'm ALMOST to the point where I'm comfortable purchasing it and not saying it's for my wife. ALMOST.

JT is a great performer and I'm very pleased to see the directions he's taken his career and also that he seems to be a very nice, genuine guy.

I like this song, even if Kanye doesn't. :)

And, just because it's always fun to remember where he came from and who he came with (I think there are 4 kids from these credits besides Justin that are (or have been) super famous):
