Well, I'm in Virginia Beach this weekend (and most of the week, actually) so here, as has become tradition, is a Flashback Countdown. This time we're heading back to 1998. It's a fantastic episode full of fantastic songs. Look down at the list of artists. Then think of the first song that comes to mind by them. That's the song, in all likelihood. It's so great.

Countdown: The First Alternative Songs Top 10!

It's a trip back to the 80's this week as we look at the very first Top 10. There was no "last week this song was at number..." for this chart. Songs just were at the positions that they were at. Pretty mind-boggling. Like thinking about the universe as it was forming. No? Well, you clearly don't think of the world of the Alternative Songs chart as being the universe like I do. :)

If I make my fortune and can switch to just doing podcasts for my job, I'd like to do one current and one flashback countdown a week until I caught up. That would be insane. But hey, maybe I'm a little insane.

This is the 4th Flashback Countdown I've done and it might be my favorite so far! 1995 often slips by me when I'm thinking of great years for Alternative Music, but this countdown should serve as a reminder that it was a fantastic year. Every song is enjoyable and uncringeworthy.

I'm going to start having an image of one of the bands featured on the countdown each week, chosen at random. I've switched to a new RSS reader and it'll look pretty on that. And that's the reason I am doing this. It's selfish, but maybe it'll add something to the blog posts....

My sister graduated from high school 2 days ago. It got me thinking about the songs that were popular when I was graduating. This isn't a countdown from the week I graduated back in '01. Back to 1996! (Flashback Countdown #2)
