Throwback Thursday: 1990 (2 Weeks at #1)

Feast on this 5-song smorgasbord of early 90's hits! There's some GREAT stuff here this week!

Wilson Phillips - Release Me (9/15-9/22)

Man, Wilson Phillips did some catchy songs, didn't they? I always think that they've only done "Hold On", but this song is pretty killer, as well!

Glenn Medeiros featuring Bobby Brown - She Ain't Worth It (7/21-7/28)

VERY noteworthy song here, even though you, like me, may not have ever heard of it. This article talks about it and here's a hint: it has to do with that word in between "Medeiros" and "Bobby"

Roxette - It Must Have Been Love (6/16-6/23)

There's a joke in Pitch Perfect involving this song and in order to get it, it's important to know that this song was a hit in 1990, not the 80's, a fact I didn't realize for quite some time. It's an element of the Riff-Off, if you want to go check it out.

Alannah Myles - Black Velvet (3/24-3/31)

Is this Alternative? It has sort of a Four Non-Blondes vibe, so I think it maybe is. Very cool!

Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise (1/6-1/13)

This song gets an honorary spot on this feature at this point because it TECHNICALLY had 4 weeks at #1, but two of them were in the 80's and this is a feature about the 90's. And so I'm making a judgement call. Rather than trying to remember to include it in the "4 weeks at #1" post or not including it at all, it will go here.

Throwback Thursday: 1985

10. David Lee Roth - California Girls
9. Don Henley - The Boys of Summer
8. Glenn Frey - The Heat is On
7. REO Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling
6. The Pointer Sisters - Neutron Dance
5. Daryl Hall and John Oates - Method of Modern Love
4. Billy Ocean - Lover Boy
3. Philip Bailey with Phil Collins - Easy Lover

Couple of things on this Top 10 from this week in 1985: The singers from REO Speedwagon and Foreigner are basically the same guy. There are two songs from the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack on this Top 10 (#'s 8 and 6). Finally, I picked this video because I'm not entirely familiar with the song, Phil Collins ruled the Top Tens of the 80's, and I liked the concept of the video as outlined by PC himself (making a video of making a video about making a video). Oh, also Hall and Oates are a couple of hams, aren't they?

2. Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is
1. Wham! - Careless Whisper

All Time Hot 100 (Part 1)

To celebrate its 55th anniversary, Billboard is rolling out a countdown of the top 100 charting songs in its history. So, since that's kind of what I'm doing on an upcoming bonus episode, I thought I'd try to track down videos for each set of ten as they are rolled out.

Here's the first 10. And apparently, they're doing 10 a day for 10 days.

100. Usher - You Make Me Wanna... (1997)

99. Fun feat. Janelle Monae - We Are Young (2012)

98. Emotions - Best of My Love (1977)

97. Maroon 5 - One More Night (2012)

96. Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise (1989)

95. B.J. Thomas - Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head (1970)

94. Puff Daddy and Faith Evans feat. 112 - I'll Be Missing You (1997)

93. John Cougar - Hurts So Good (1982)

92. Roberta Flack - Killing Me Softly With His Song (1973)

(15 years later than when it charted, but c'mon, the 70's weren't about music videos, people)

91. Elvis Presley - Are You Lonesome Tonight? (1960)

(Of course this is only 8 years later than when it charted. Good lookin' out, Elvis)
