Hey everyone! Well we made it through another month (basically) and so there's another batch of songs from Alternative Radio to listen to! We'll be back next month. Stay safe and healthy. And also, I hope it's very clear that at Appetite For Distraction, we firmly support Black Lives Matter and want swift justice for George Floyd and every other Black human being that has been murdered by police officers. The system is broken and we need to fix it.

New Countdown!: April 2020! (with special guest Lila!)

Billie Eilish

Hey! So, this is what monthly countdowns looks like! We are back with all of the songs that charted in April. And my daughter is here to weigh in on what she thinks of the songs from this month. We had such a fun time recording that this might become an occasional feature. I hope you have as much fun. The "cover art" for this episode is not random as it normally is, but was purposefully selected after Lila correctly pointed out that there's only one female voice in this whole countdown. (Diet Cig has an album you could go preorder, if you were interested....)

New Countdown: That Nostalgic Feeling of a Comatose Computer

Moon Taxi

There was a time, early on in this countdown's life, where I would constantly have computer problems and would have to figure out ways around them. That is what I dealt with, with this episode as my computer has fallen very ill. But I am hopeful that it is on the mend. This episode was entirely recorded while I waited for Nicole from Apple to call me back. Which is not a dig against Nicole. She has been awesome and I recognize that she is not only dealing with me.

ANYways. This was a good countdown. I hope that the musical differences between my vocals and the songs isn't too jarring. Enjoy!

How many plays on that band's name do you think I can use for titles for this countdown before they're off the Top Ten? I bet this isn't the last time by a longshot. :)

It's a good episode this week. A little punky, a little polka-y. So, get stoked about that! And enjoy ;-)

Pennywise

New month, new countdown songs, new Dessa, new Artist of the Month! It's a lot of newness on here and I get into some lyrical interpretation that takes us into a deep dive into the device of false narrative continuation. It's a good time :)

2017 Year End Countdown!!!!

The Killers

This is the EIGHTH freaking Year End Countdown I've done on here and it's exciting and fun every single year. I love looking back at the songs that were huge in a given year and I also love seeing what songs statistically make the Top Ten, but had sort of faded from memory. Both of those kinds of songs are in this episode. So enjoy and Happy New Year!

New Countdown: Gettin' Weird

30 Seconds to Mars

I think that this episode might start off with the weirdest song I've ever played. I hope you enjoy the craziness as much as I do. The show benefits from it, I think. A good shot in the arm that makes the more straightforward songs all the sweeter!
