Throwback Thursday: 1991 (1 Week at #1) (Part 1)

13 songs spent 1 week at #1 in 1991. So I've split them in two. These are from the second half of the year. Next week we'll look at the first half.

P.M. Dawn - Set Adrift on Memory Bliss (11/30)

This song samples Spandau Ballet's "True". Which at the time was only 8 years old. Just like I was. I feel like I would have been really  into P.M. Dawn if I was 20 in 1991.

Michael Bolton - When a Man Loves a Woman (11/23)

A cover of a Percy Sledge song that went to #1 in 1966 (for TWO weeks! Take that Michael Bolton!) Also, according to Wikipedia: "This version has the distinction of being the last number one song to chart on the old Billboard Hot 100 charting system which relied on sales and airplay reports before switching over to Soundscan."

Karyn White - Romantic (11/2)

This is the only song this week that I couldn't at least hum a few bars of. Seems like fairly standard early 90's R&B? Who has some cool Karyn White stories?

Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch featuring Loleatta Holloway - Good Vibrations (10/5)

Feel it, feel it. (Listen to the ad libs that Mark Wahlberg puts into this song. I love them so much)

Paula Abdul - The Promise of a New Day (9/14)

This is a pretty catchy song from the album that also had "Rush, Rush" which is a pretty great song in and of itself.

EMF - Unbelievable (7/20)

It's weird to see them actually performing this. It feels to me like this song has just always existed on the radio and nowhere else.

Haha he was only at #1 for 1 week with this one, and it's his only #1 of the 90's so on the plus side, no more Michael Bolton! :)
