Well this was a tough one! I'm not sure really what happened, but I kept being SO tired at night and then I just kept recording one or two intros and calling it a night. So that's why the dual title. I'm not sure if it almost killed me or if I almost just didn't finish it.
But it's a good one with great tunes and LOTS of Bonus Songs.

I was going to do the Bon Jovi album, but then it occurred to me that I might have done them for this year on the Hot 100 and, sure enough, there they were. So I did the #1 album. Which is also a doozie. Lots of great songs on this one. I don't own a copy. I believe I'll put it on my wishlist!
Well, I'm in Virginia Beach this weekend (and most of the week, actually) so here, as has become tradition, is a Flashback Countdown. This time we're heading back to 1998. It's a fantastic episode full of fantastic songs. Look down at the list of artists. Then think of the first song that comes to mind by them. That's the song, in all likelihood. It's so great.
This, like the Bad Religion album from the previous post, wasn't an album that I have specific memories about. I heard that it had a lot of samples on it and that it was a great album and that you couldn't make it today because it would be too costly (although my Dad and I recently had a discussion about how Kanye should remake it beat for beat, sample for sample, paying all the costs, just because it would be an ostentatious thing to do...) so I bought it.
And it is exactly as it was purported to be. Probably my favorite of the three Beastie Boys albums I've heard all the way through (the others being Hello Nasty and Hot Sauce Committee Part Two) and, perhaps more importantly, a departure from the bin that people had put them in (frat rap rock).

And here's a wonderful video that someone made that breaks down the samples from "Shake Your Rump". It says that it's Part 1, but I haven't been able to find any subsequent videos. But maybe the massive popularity of this blog post and series will inspire him to do more!!
So I want to focus a little more on these Alternative Album Grammy Winners that I'm playing for bonus songs on the Countdown. So I think, on the first Monday of every month, I'm going to do a little retrospective poll related to the album from the proceeding month.

This is one of those countdowns that was recorded all around the globe......or in two places in the same state....but it's pretty close, right?

Well, here I am! Haha. Yeah, the time got the best of me this week, but, when you think about it, being a couple of hours late is nothing when you think about the perpetuity of the life of the podcast after it's published. I listen to a podcast where the host has kind of a running gag where he tries to keep the content timeless, so he'll say stuff like "back in early 2013" for stuff that happened a couple of months ago.
Anyways. It's kind of a short episode, also due to the fact that I picked the worst times to record, BUT it also contains what may be the most adorable intro ever. So you may want to give it a chance :)

It's the longest episode in 3 months. It has 5 bonus songs. And I loved every minute of it. I feel like we're in the midst of hearing "the sound of 2013 in alternative music," but it won't become evident what exactly that sound consists of for a while yet. I'm happy to just sit back and enjoy the tunes.

Hey I just noticed that one of the guys in Twenty One Pilots is wearing a Cleveland Indians tshirt! How cool and unintentional! As the title of this post suggests, I'm currently in Ohio, where my daughter was one of the flower girls in a wedding. She did fantastically well.

Well, actually it wasn't a long time ago. And it was still in the state of Virginia....Commonwealth? Anyways, a while ago I uploaded the first link to a song on my other blog to see if I could and it was the song below. Because the song title is incredibly appropriate! The test I'm running now is as follows. We're looking for a little blue play button to appear in front of the song title. If all goes to plan, you should be able to click it and stream the song. Other blogs have this (see section on the side called "Blogs That Are Better Than Mine" or something like that...) so it might not be new, but I think it's pretty cool.
