New Countdown: January 2021!

24kGoldn and Iann Diorr

It's taken a little big to get this one out, but it's finally done. I think that this experiment with the Hot Rock  & Alternative Songs chart has been a success and I am planning on continuing it into 2022. Now. Let's see how many 2021 countdowns I can get out before then!

Well here it finally is! The Artists of the Year Countdown for 2020! It's a very good one and I love making these things, it's just that I found myself doing a lot of podcasting with other people this year and kept putting the recording of this show off. You understand. But here it is! I hope you enjoy it!

Here we are again for another glorious Artists of the Year countdown. I love it so much and this one is an EXCELLENT one. Great songs, but also songs that point to specific events in the year, which is just what you want in an AOTY countdown, you know?

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift featuring Brendan Urie (of Panic! At the Disco) - ME!

It's always nice when I don't even have to watch the video for this post because I've seen it several times already. I watched it once on my own, watched it twice with my kids, probably watched it again on my own, saw a making-of video. This has been a big deal and the fact that Old Town Road is holding this one from #1 speaks volumes. I love this song and I'm excited for the album

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "...Ready For It?"

With this song entering the Top 5 at the same time that "Look What You Made Me Do" is at #1, Taylor Swift becomes the first woman to have two songs in the Top 5 at the same time since she acheived the same feat in 2015.

This album is going to be bananas, I think. In a good way...probably :)

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "Look What You Made Me Do"

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Taylor Swift's new song blasts up to #1. It robs "Despacito" of breaking the record for most weeks at #1 (though it could very well take that honor next week or the week after. Basically, any other time "Despacito" is at #1, it's a record breaker.) and the video is pretty entertaining, in my opinion (especially the part at the end :) )

Top Ten Tuesday: Zayn/Taylor Swift "I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)"

Here is the lead single from the soundtrack of the next installment of the Fifty Shades of Grey series. And it features two TTT alumni: Zayn (of One Direction and solo fame) and Taylor Swift. Will it be as big as The Weeknd's "Earned It"? Time will tell.

It's funny. I usually think of this as the last countdown of the year, but really it's the first countdown of the NEW year! So, Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy this countdown as much as I enjoyed making it!

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "Wildest Dreams"

Her 16th Top Ten Single of her career and the 5th from the 1989 album. I'm excited to see this video, because I haven't yet. The album sure is enjoyable.

Very lovely and very nostalgic. I can dig it.

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar "Bad Blood"

Well, as expected, this song takes over the #1 position on the Hot 100. It's not surprising, since it spent all week breaking Vevo records and being a super intense, fun, cameofest.

I am very pleased with what Kendrick adds to this, as well. Overall, a very well executed project!

See how many people you can recognize!

New Countdown: The Episode That Almost Killed Me, or, The Episode That Nearly Wasn't!

Muse
Well this was a tough one! I'm not sure really what happened, but I kept being SO tired at night and then I just kept recording one or two intros and calling it a night. So that's why the dual title. I'm not sure if it almost killed me or if I almost just didn't finish it.

But it's a good one with great tunes and LOTS of Bonus Songs.

And also, even though it feels silly now, Happy Mother's Day!

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "Style"

The third single from Taylor Swift's smash album 1989 to make the Top Ten, this video is a lot more artsy than the previous two. I like it. I am really getting a sense of just how she incorporated the 1989 sound into this album. Definitely intriguing. I wouldn't be surprised if I owned this album before 2015 is over.

Top Ten Tuesday: DOUBLE FEATURE: Taylor Swift "Blank Space"/Sam Smith "I'm Not the Only One"

So, to kick off my Thanksgiving week of not having any regular features happen the way they normally do (kinda like I'm a real network!), I didn't have a Top Ten Tuesday last week. So this week, we're going to feature two songs!!

It's really a shame that I missed out on featuring this Taylor Swift song the week it went to number one. In doing so, it made Taylor Swift the first female artist (and tenth overall) to replace themselves at #1. The other 9 were: The Beatles, Boyz II Men, Puff Daddy, Ja Rule, Nelly, Outkast, Usher, T.I, and the Black Eyed Peas. Pretty amazing stuff.

This video is pretty amazing, too. Great visuals to a song that, I don't know about you but, I really like a lot!

And for the second part of our double feature, another very cinematic, very old-school-feeling video from Sam Smith. It features the girl who played Quinn on Glee and the guy who plays Danny on The Mindy Project, which feels like it should be a generation off, but I guess isn't?

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "Shake It Off"

So the new Taylor Swift was released last week and debuted at #1. It is the 22nd song to EVER do this. It's a catchy song and I feel like her vocals sound like Hayley Williams's (the singer from Paramore) which is a very good thing. There was some controversy about this song being disrespectful to black people or something, but it was based on the person not having watched the video. Clearly this video is all in good fun. Enjoy!

Here are the other songs to debut at #1 throughout the ages. A lot of great songs. Also a run of American Idol winners. And you see Baauer is the most recent one on there from last year when they added YouTube plays to the calculation of the Hot 100.

Throwback Thursday: 2009

10. Pitbull - Hotel Room Service
9. Cobra Starship feauring Leighton Meester - Good Girls Go Bad
8. Keri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo - Knock You Down
7. Jay Sean featurin Lil Wayne - Down
6. Drake - Best I Ever Had
5. Kings of Leon - Use Somebody
4. Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me

Much like Katy Perry last week, what I'm throwing back to this week is the cuteness of Taylor Swift. Yeah, that's right. I think she's cute, too. This video is pretty fun even if it IS just a music video version of that joke in Not Another Teen Movie where the beautiful girl is hidden underneath "those GLASSES and that PONYTAIL! (Don't forget those paint-stained overalls!)" but it's a lot of fun.

3. Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West - Run This Town
2. Miley Cyrus - Party in the U.S.A.
1. The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling

I also wanted to include this DJ Earworm mashup because it's the best on of all the mashups he's released for the top songs of the year since 2007. I think most of the songs in this post's top ten make an appearance, if not all of them.

Top Ten Tuesday: Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble"

So this is one of those intense videos I was talking about the other week. I like this song, but I feel like the over-long intro is WAY too dramatic for the feeling of the song.

I like seeing TS get dirty/grungy/whatever, and it's cool to see her exploring different sounds on her songs.

And now, to lighten the mood, here's something that has been going around the Internet. First there was a video of goats sounding like humans going around. And then people started doing this to pop videos. And I kind of like it and kind of hate it. So, it's perfect, as far as stuff coming from the Internet is concerned.
